You are your most valuable asset in your quest for success and happiness. That is the bottom line, and the foundational truth of success and happiness.
This means that only you can get in your way. No one can stop you from becoming the person you were born to be, or from doing the things you were born to do. People or circumstances can hinder you, but they don’t have the power to stop you. Only you have that power. Never give it away.
Many people have an idea of what they wish their life was like, only you have the ability to make that a reality. Most don’t, you can.
Human Development Lessons from SEO
In the previous article I revealed how my research into the proper use and application of SEO, or search engine optimization, led to a moment of insightful clarity that resulted in the naming of a system of strategies for personal and organizational growth and development called “Human Optimization™.” Who would have thought that “human development” lessons could be gleaned from the research of search engine optimization?
SEO: Complicated and Comprehensive
SEO is complicated and comprehensive in nature. There is no golden ticket, or “one key fits all” secret to SEO success. Many elements and a combination of strategies combine to form the best SEO practices.
It takes a combination of many things, well put together, working in fluid unison, to get the greatest SEO benefit for your site. If you wish to become an expert in SEO you have to learn to do many things well.
Personal Growth: Complicated and Comprehensive
This is even truer of personal development and self improvement. As with search engine optimization, Human Optimization™ is a complicated beast. There are no cookie cutter approaches, no one key fits all
tactics, no simple blueprints for success and happiness. In order to develop people, or yourself, you have to learn to do many things well.
It takes a combination of many things, well put together, working in fluid unison, to achieve your potential for success and happiness. So much so, that many people get stranded before they even begin. Don’t get trapped by the lie that you will find a “secret to success” that will transform your life.
Life is way too complex and people are far too diverse for the achievement of success and happiness to be that simplistic.
The Complex Nature of Growth and Development
Life is complex, people are complex, relationships are complex, and work is complex. The world is a complex place to live, raise a family, and do business. When we strive to make this world a better place to live, work, and play we are not committing to an easy task. It is not for the faint of heart. There is nothing easy about it.
The Complex Nature of Success and Happiness
This being the case, it amazes me that we could ever think that the achievement of success and happiness is an easy jaunt in the park. The achievement of success and happiness are complex, because success and happiness are complex. The nature of personal and organizational growth and development are complex, because personal and organizational growth and development are complex.
The Complex Nature of People
Consider also the complexity of people. People are a complex combination of thoughts, emotions, and actions. If you have met any, you know this to be true. It is often hard to know why people do what they do.
Have you ever heard a man say in desperation, “I just don’t understand that woman?” Is that because men lack intelligence? Not at all! It is because woman are complex. But so are men. And women have no easier time understanding the male perspective.
No two people possess the same combination of skills, strengths, or personal style. We all have different training, perspectives, knowledge base, and life experience—to name only a few things. As a result we are absolutely unique individuals. No two people are alike. This complicates things more than just a little.
The Complex Nature of Application
There certainly are basic principles that we can all apply with good success. But while foundational principles may have a degree of universal application, the application of those principles may also be unique to each individual.
You can read about someone else’s success, and you can try to model them—perhaps with some success. But they are not you, their circumstances are not yours, and their environment is foreign to you. They think differently, they feel differently, they act differently, and they react differently. As a result their “formula for success” may not help you at all.
Things are usually more complex than they appear at first glance. What may work for one person, will not work for another. What one person sees as a brilliant strategy, another may not relate to at all. What results in success for one person, may lead to failure for another. Complexity!
G Strategies™ | Growth Strategies for Success™
Life, people, and success are complex. This complexity is easily overcome, but only if we first recognize that it is there. Those who refuse to recognize it are in for a rude awakening.
More often than not we look for a simplistic approach to personal and organizational growth and development. If success was really that easy, then there would be far more successful people around.
In your quest for success and happiness it is important to recognize that there is more to it than one “how to” book, and a single strategy. Even this site will not meet all your needs, nor will having me speak at your next event—I wish it would.
This means you must take the time to understand yourself and how to apply success principles to your personal make up and circumstances.
