The world is full of people who want to succeed. The sad reality is that very few of these people will actually do what is necessary to succeed. They imagine it, they wish for it, they demand it, but they never take the necessary steps to make distinct progress on their journey to success. They are stuck in neutral, and unfortunately many have slipped into reverse.
You don’t have to be stuck. Success is achievable by anyone who will work hard, persevere, and embrace foundation success principles. You can learn about these here on this website—and also through my speaking and coaching—but let me offer a basic insight for the moment.
You Set The Tone for Your Success
It is important to realize that you set the tone and limits for your success.
Success does not have to be the distant dream of a select few. It is available to anyone who will embrace foundational success principles. You can take Your Success to the Next Level!
Success Is Not A Distant Dream
People often view success as a distant dream. The problem with this is that their destination tends to be far in the future and will often seem unattainable. The result is often feelings of failure and discouragement with lack of perceived progress.
Be careful not to view success as a one time event or a single destination in the distant future. This will invite discouragement and negative thought patterns that can instigate self-sabotage or even failure.
There is nothing wrong with having a big dream that will require great effort to achieve. The problem comes only when that large distant dream is too far away, or is the only achievement that you perceive as success.
Success Is A Journey
Success is not a destination, it is a journey. You can be successful here and now. You don’t have to wait to achieve some distant dream before allowing yourself to be or feel successful. You can have many successes along the way.
Success is as much a state of mind as it is a goal to be achieved. The sooner you allow yourself to feel successful, the more successful you will be. This does not mean lowering your standard for success. Instead, it means that you widen your standard for success.
I don’t have to achieve a $50,000 fee level to be a successful speaker, or to feel like a successful speaker. If that is my standard for success then it may be a very long time before I am a success—and realistically that may never happen, which would mean I would never become a success. That would be tragic.
I am free to strive for such a standard, but I don’t have to wait for that to feel successful. If my next talk goes well, then I have achieve a success. If I am able to increase my fee, then that is a success. If I help someone grow and achieve success, then I have achieved another success. If I am a good speaker, then I am a success.
You Set the Rule for Success
It is important to realize that you set the rules for success. You determine when you are a success. You decide what it will mean for you to be a success. With this in mind it would be wise to establish many stepping stone successes, rather than one enormous success that will take years to achieve.
Don’t defeat yourself by only setting large goals that lie in the distant future. It’s ok to have a big dream, but don’t make that dream your only standard for measuring success, or your only way of achieving of success.
Set rules for success that will make you successful now, and give you many wins as you strive for your ultimate achievement of success—if there is such a thing. Give yourself permission to be successful now, or at least very soon. Make it a worthwhile achievement to be sure, but don’t make it insurmountable or so difficult it will take years or decades to achieve. Give yourself a break.
What is “Next Level Success™”
It is much better to perceive success as a series of wins on your journey. Don’t spend your days striving for that illusive distant image you call success. Make success a series of stepping stones that you can achieve along the way.
Some may see this as simply another way to talk about goals, and in a way they would be correct. However, the difference is in perspective. The achievement in question is a goal while it lies in the future. However, it becomes a success once it has been achieved. When it has been achieved allow yourself to see yourself as a success.
Instead of defining success as some ultimate achievement that lies in the distant future, begin to think in terms of “Next Level Success™”. “Next Level Success™” is one degree, or one level, of achievement above the success you have presently achieved or currently enjoy. Continually strive for that next level of success and you will always move forward toward your destiny and your dream.
Celebrate Each Level of Success
Celebrate each level of success. Once you achieve a goal, no matter how small, it is a success—you are a success. Now it’s time to celebrate.
Allow yourself to experience joy and fulfillment on your success journey. Do this as often as possible. Don’t try to jump from level one to level twenty before you celebrate and allow yourself to feel successful. Focus on the next level of success in your life, team, or organization, and once you achieve that level of success then celebrate it like crazy.
Once you have celebrated then move forward and focus on the next level of success, and then the next. This will save your sanity and result in one celebration after another, making your journey to success a lot more fun.
