Do you want to succeed? Yes you do! If you are reading this then there is a high probability that the answer is yes, and that you are hoping you will find a nugget of truth here that will help you achieve the success you desire and deserve. The truth is that you will find many nuggets that will help you on your journey to success and happiness. My goal as a success life coach and motivational keynote speaker—and through this site—is to help you to maximize your potential, and establish a personal strategy for success.
The million dollar question is this, “Is there a ‘Key’ to success?” And if there is a “Key to Success,” then what is it? If there is such a “key” then I imagine that everyone would want to know what it is. Wouldn’t you be just a little curious? However, the scarcity of successful people suggests that there is no single “key to success.” What then?
Bill Cosby is clearly an intelligent and successful man, yet he admitted that he didn’t know what the key to success is. In his own words he said, “I don’t know the key to success…” How could someone as successful as Bill Cosby not know what the key to success is? Where does that leave us?
Local Radio Contest Sparks Excitement
A local radio station once hosted a contest that sparked a lot of excitement. Over a period of time callers played a game on the air, and if they were successful they were given the opportunity to draw a key from a hat. Each person was then given the opportunity to insert their key into the ignition of a brand new car. You see where this is going don’t you? One by one each person turned the key, and one by one they got out of the car with a look of disappointment etched on their faces. Only one key would work; only one person would win. Some lucky person was going to drive home in a brand new car. I didn’t even get a key.
Everyone wanted a chance at one of those keys, and they were hopeful that there’s would unlock the prize. Everyone wanted to win. I know I did! And why not? We all want to win. We all relish the opportunity to get something for nothing. There is nothing quite like the opportunity to win big when little effort has been expended. For many it’s a dream come true.
The Promise of Success
The opportunity to win a key to a brand new car is appealing. But the opportunity to discover the “key to success;” that would be mother of all prizes! It would make winning a car seem like child’s play. It would radically change your life!
There is a saying: “Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.” The expression points out the value and importance of teaching a “life skill” in comparison to simple benevolence—although my intention is not to downplay the importance of benevolence. Finding the “key to success” would have the same impact on a persons life. Win a car and you will enjoy the thrill for a moment. Discover the “key to success,” and you will be successful for a lifetime. Given the choice, I would take the “key to success” every time. But does such a thing even exist?
Type the phrase “Key To Success” into the amazon.com search engine and you will get several pages of books with that phrase somewhere in the title. This would seem to indicate that the “key to success” is out there somewhere, just waiting for you to find it. But when you look more closely you will find that everyone has a different “key.” They can’t all be right. Unless of course each “key” is simply one piece of a much larger and more difficult puzzle—this is, in fact, the truth of the matter.
One must eventually ask the question, “Is the promised ‘key’ to success anything more than a marketing ploy to get hopeful people to purchase a book?” After all, the promise of success sells. And isn’t it true that all marketers are liars?
The Allure Of Success
Why do people have such a fascination with finding the “key to success”? There is no mystery here. We all have an innate hunger to succeed, and we spend our lives striving for that singular prize. After all, who doesn’t want a better life? Who doesn’t want to be respected? Who doesn’t want to live at the top? The answer is self evident.
Success! There is something about that word that captures our attention and imagination. The word is both compelling and mysterious. As a result it creates both desire and frustrations. We all want to achieve it, many work hard to move toward it, and most of us experience only frustration for our efforts. And yet the allure of success is so powerful that we cannot let go of the dream.
“We all want to success and the promise of finding a ‘key’ that will open the door to success is extremely appealing.” It captures our attention, and draws our hopes with the power of a promise.
The promise of success is an appealing and powerful force. It is an attraction that continually draws us like a moth to a flame. It’s constant influence is much like the gravitational pull of the moon. The earth cannot escape the influence of the moon. It is always there; forever making its presence felt. The influence of the moon is so strong, and constant, that the vast oceans of our beautiful planet are dramatically impacted on a daily basis by its presence. In the “Bay of Fundy,” for example, the height of the tide can reach an incredible 16 meters (53 feet).
The attraction of success is no less influential. It is a powerful force that captures the imagination, and fuels our passion. It’s influence is so powerfully that people will sacrifice relationships and cross moral boundaries to taste of it’s richness. We want it so badly that we will accept as true things that we know are unlikely to be true.
G Strategies™ | Growth Strategies for Success™
We all want to succeed, and as a result we spend our lives in pursuit of the elusive prize that we call success. Our strong desire for success creates a longing within us that makes us receptive to promises of success. At times it might even make it easier for us to bend the rules just a little; to do things we would not normally do.
The allure of success is very real, and you must be aware of how it will impact you. What are you willing to do to succeed? Would you be willing to step outside moral boundaries? Would you sacrifice a relationship? How far would you go to become successful? Just how much does your desire for success impact your actions? These are important questions for anyone who would journey the road to success.
You must rule your desire for success. Never allow your desire for success to rule you.
