All people desire, and I would even add “deserve,” success and happiness. That is a reality of life, a simple statement of fact—without question. But there is some question concerning the amount of work people are willing to exert to achieve success.
We must all ask ourselves this crucial question. Are we actively reaching for success, or are we passively dreaming about success. Are you doing everything in your power to attain this elusive prize? Or are you waiting around hoping that success will fall from the sky and magically land on your lap. These are crucial questions with far reaching consequences, because success never ever just happens.
The possibility of achieving success without consistent application of a winning strategy is almost zero. It’s about as likely as your perfect life partner simply falling from the sky and landing on your lap. There is a scene in some movie where that actually happens, and yet we all know that it would never happen in real life. A beautiful woman—or handsome man—is not going to simply land on your lap. You will have to do some work to attract her attention and convincer her (or him) that you are worth her time.
Success if very much like this. It never just “happens.” We all know this to be true, and yet we often organize our lives without a strategy for success—which is a sure strategy for failure.
Success requires sustained focused effort. That is why so many do not achieve the success they desire. They don’t reach far enough, hard enough, or long enough.
A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words
It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words. An old Chinese proverb takes this a step further and suggests that a picture is worth ten thousand words. The number of words is not relevant to the analogy. The point is simply this: a single image can communicate a complex idea that would otherwise require the use of many words.
That is the case with my old website header image seen above. The header image is clearly out of this world—literally—it presents an impossible reality. While I would love to stand on the moon and gaze upon the earth, it is not going to happen any time soon.
One might wonder why a success life coach and motivational speaker would choose such an image? Because for me this image is bursting with meaning and serves a purpose much greater than aesthetics. It embodies several key success principles, as well as several personal development and self improvement nuggets of wisdom.
A picture is certainly worth a thousand words, can speak louder than words, and has the ability to convey many thoughts simultaneously. That is the case here.
Lessons in the Heavens
Nature is a great teacher. Many success principles can be gleaned from the universe that we are flying through at an astonishing 66,660 mph—that never ceases to amaze me. That being the case, the header coveys many success principles that will be addressed in the course of this series, as well as in future articles. They are there for those who will look—kind of like a child trying to find hidden animals in a picture.
Let me briefly highlight a few of those success strategies:
- The heavens encourage us to think and dream big.
- Do not allow yourself to be limited by earthly constraints or imposed limitations.
- Live outside the box. Think outside the box. In fact, there is no box—the cosmos has no boundaries.
- It is important, for personal growth and success, to withdraw and reflect from time to time.
- You must find your place in this world. This means that you must be who you were born to be.
- Do what you were born to do.
- We are not alone in our desire for success and happiness.
- Many people around us are equally deserving of success and happiness.
- We are not alone, we are part of a much larger world. We must make a positive contribution to others in our personal quest for success.
- We all play a role in making this world a better place to live, work, and play.
These success principles are illustrated in the header, and they will be discussed in future articles.
