Are you reaching for success? What does it mean to “reach for success?” Is it even possible to achieve success in this fast paced, dog eat dog world? Or is success something that is only achieved by the lucky few, or by those who are born into affluence?
The world is full of success seekers. But there is a big difference between someone who is “dreaming” about success, and someone who is making an effort to do something about it. Everyone and their dog would like to succeed. But there’s an critical difference between someone who “would like” to succeed, and someone who is “reaching” for success.
Which are you? Answer carefully! Because that is a surprisingly important question with far reaching implications for your future. One path will lead to discouragement and disillusionment, the other will lead to success and happiness. Choose wisely.
My goal with everything I do on this site—and in my speaking and coaching—is to help you reach for success in ways you never imagined possible.
Success: Are You a ‘Dreamer’ or a ‘Reacher’?
There are those who hope to be successful, and there are those who reach for and actively pursue success. The difference is the difference between success and failure.
“Reaching” implies a desire that is backed by focused activity. Those who “reach for success” are expending effort, planning strategies, learning from circumstances, developing their skills, enhancing their well-being, and participating in other similar activities. They are doing things, they are actively engaging themselves in the quest for success. They are shaping their destiny with every “reaching” activity that they participate in. There battle cry is, “what can I do next to take another step toward success.”
The sentiment that someone “would like” to succeed is simply wishful thinking. It is the passive hopefulness that good fortune will fall from the sky and land right on their lap. But that is not success. That is a random accident, which, incidentally, usually never lasts. These people are buying lottery tickets, spending every morning meeting at their coffee clutch complaining about this and that, reading newspaper comics to pass the time, all the while daydreaming about what they would like their life to be like. Their swan song is, “why won’t someone just see my potential and give me a break?” That will never happen.
There is a vast difference between a “passive dreamer” and an “active dreamer.” The “passive dreamer” is twiddling his thumbs, while the “active dreamer” is engaging in sustained focused effort. One is lost in a dream land, the other is trying to turn their dream to reality.
Which are you? If your reading this, then very likely you are the latter. You are trying to turn your dreams to reality. Go for it! Your efforts will always reap positive benefit for yourself and those you love.
The Quest For Success
Success never just happens. That statement is so important that it deserves repeating: Success never, ever, ever, ever just happens…ever! I state that reality in the strongest possible terms in hopes that it will forever linger in your thoughts. Take this success reality to heart, and it just might mark the beginning of your journey to real success.
Far to many people think that success should come easily, that they are somehow entitled to it, and that for whatever illogical reason the universe owes them. This kind of thinking will be their downfall. Success doesn’t come easily, they are not “entitled to it,” and the world or universe owes them nothing.
If you believe that success comes easily, or that the world owes you something, then you will never expend the effort necessary to achieve success, you will never commit yourself fully to the quest for success, and you will never dedicate yourself to the level of personal growth and self improvement that will be necessary for you to achieve that elusive prize called “success.”
Success requires sustained focused effort. This is one of the main reasons that so many people are unable to achieve the success they desire. They don’t reach far enough, hard enough, or long enough.
