“Work Optimization™” focuses on work, career, or professional vocation, whether paid or unpaid volunteer). Work Optimization is a system of strategies designed to help you discover your natural strengths and abilities. You will have much greater capacity for success when you discover your expertise and find your place in this world.
Many people view work as a necessary evil. With an attitude like that it is no wonder so many people are discontent, don’t enjoy their life, and never reach their full potential. If you are not doing what you love then you will never achieve your maximum potential, and you will live an existence devoid of peace. But I want you to know one very important truth: it does not have to be that way. You can enjoy and find fulfillment in your work.
Work is a big part of our life. We will spend more time working than doing any other single thing in our lives—well, I suppose some would spend more time sleeping, but that would not be you. It is crucial, therefore, that you find work that is in line with your abilities and personality. First, you need to figure out what you love to do, what you are naturally good at, and then you must find a way to get paid for it. Finally, you must become the best that you can be in that field. Do this and you will dramatically increase your potential for success, and you will enhance your experience of peace. What more could anyone want?
Everyone has a place in the world. A place where they will fit and be able to contribute to the world. Your adventure in life—should you choose to accept it—is to find your place, to discover who you are, and how you can have the greatest positive influence on people. It would be a tragedy for you to sell yourself short, settle for a job that does not reflect who you are, and therefore will not challenge you or meet your needs.
Imagine how tragic it would have been if Mother Teresa had been a waitress, if Michael Jordan had been a construction worker, or if Oprah had been a farmer. Nothings wrong with any of these careers, but they would not have been the best use of their talents and abilities. The world would have suffered without the benefit of their expertise, or natural strengths and abilities. And they would have suffered by not fulfilling their purpose, and gaining the sense of peace and satisfaction that comes from engaging their talents.
There is nothing wrong with being a waitress, a construction worker, or a farmer, “if” that is what you were born to do. No job is a good job, if it is not what you where born to do. By the same token, any job is a good job, if it is what you were born to do.
Unfortunately, and tragically, people everywhere are settling for second best. They are not doing what they are good at, and therefore what they were born to do. At a minimum, you must engage your abilities and passions in a volunteer capacity. Then you can look for ways to engage your strengths in the workplace. But make sure that you are working where you can best utilize your gifts and abilities over the long haul. Otherwise, peace will be a fantasy, and your performance will always be less than optimal. Stated bluntly…you will not be happy.
What are you passionate about? Do that and you will find success and happiness in life.
